About Me

I'm Isobel Woodiwiss, an artist based in Waterloo, Ontario. Currently, I'm working towards my Master of Art in Communication Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University. I'm a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design and have also studied with the Rhode Island School of Design. I have a particular interest in storytelling and science. When those two things collide, all the better!

I came into illustration with a focus on concept art, but as I've become more in touch with my outdoorsy side, I've discovered a passion for natural science illustration. This then led me to an interest in science communication as a whole, which is how I found my way to communication studies. My focus in my studies is on climate change and visual communication.

While I am a more logic-driven person, I think that art is our most important form of communication, as it lends emotion to fact. I think it's critical to take advantage of this, using it to make meaning out of science and to share experiences -- whether they are deeply specific or entirely universal.

I like work that involves in-depth research, and using that to push my compositions. Any chance I get to show rather than tell, I dive in head first.
